We love these adorable cake or cupcake toppers for wedding cakes or shower celebrations. There is something decidedly un-wedding about them. Something about them reminds me of the Sunday funny papers or maybe its weeble wobbles – but these two seem to have their own little story to tell…

Made of wood and hand-painted, the size works really well for cupcakes or a full-fledged wedding cake. We noticed that Design Sponge (who we love) also likes these and has featured them. If you’d like to purchase these sweeties just email us at jennifer@lavishgifts.com. $40 for the pair.

Bumblebee Cupcakes

Baby Kenzie Bea’s first birthday was this past week. So I went all out and planned a bee themed party for her. My friend, an awesome baker and cupcake diva, Sarah at Sugar Shack , here in Houston, made the most fantastic chocolate and buttermilk cupcakes. She frosted them with stripes and I made these funny little paper wings. The wings were just brown shimmer paper cutout (freeform style) and glued to a glorified tooth pick called craft picks (picks and paper were bought at Michael’s).

I also used the most fantastic idea for a ribbon chandelier decoration that I found on The Hostess Blog – and added on a few faux bees for good measure. The decoration turned out a bit differently than I planned but at 1am you sometimes have to make sacrifices. The whole thing turned out so cute.

Thanks Sarah – you’re the bees knees.

I would love to have my guests use pinwheels instead of throwing rice at my wedding!

We finally have a few photos of our wedding favors – and also our gift boxes. The bachelorette party box has everything you need to put together an awesome bash for the bride-to-be’s  last night out.We skipped the tacky stuff and edited this collection to only have the cutest accessories and games for the lucky lady. The table topics bachelorette party edition is one of our faves. We are still trying to find the perfect hangover cure for the next day…

Also shown in the pics is our bridesmaid’s thank you gift box. We love, love the dogeared necklace that is part of this thank you box. You wear it until it falls off and then your wish comes true! Marcus and I loved these at market and wore them until they fell off, which for me took about 3 months. The box also has fantastic chocolates from Bloomsberry – the “no weight gain” chocolate bar is our favorite.

Contact us at jennifer@lavishgifts.com if you want more info on the favors, gift boxes or pricing for these items. Also just about everything shown can be customized with colors and information for your wedding so get with us if you are interested in finding out more.

Can't deal with this mini wedding cake!!!

Can't deal with the faux wedding cake from Sugar Shack!

The bridal event was a huge success! Sunday we showcased wedding favors – including our favorite  hear-shaped birdseed tree charm favors. We decorated a centerpiece for our table with them and they looked so cute with lovebirds in our tree.

The other big fave is our pinwheels and pinwheel cupcake toppers. They are sooooo cute. Our friend at Sugar Shack, Sarah De Lachica, brought her yummy cupcakes and displayed the pinwheel toppers.  We also showed cootie catchers which were popular. Apparently Martha Stewart showed these in her latest magazine. We love them and you use them for so many things:  do a program for the ceremony, a menu or trivia about the bride and groom (that would work well for shower favors).

The other thing we are loving in a big way are the ceramic birds eggs in nests. These can be used as placecards as well as wedding favors and are just so sweet. We love these on the tablescape and they complete the lovebird theme. You can customize them with any word you want, names or date of the ceremony. This is so much fun and the designer who makes these has the best ideas in ceramic. We have more coming from her so look out for that.

Another favorite was the bachelorette party in a box. This is so great for the bad girl bachelorette who wants to skip the tacky stuff. We love the table topics to go in the bachelorette edition.

Thank you so much Sari Motley Cosmetics for opening your fab space to the lovely brides-to-be and their entourages. We had a great time and really enjoyed it.

Marcus and I are so excited for my sister Aimee, of Deuce Creative fame. She will be married next week here in Houston and its going to be fabulous. Aimee and I were looking for a VERY last minute wedding takeaway for guests at the reception. Enter Jackie Burdisso of Maison Burdisso. She does gorgeous french-inspired foods and is famous around these parts for her French macarons. I met Jackie and first tasted her macarons at the Midtown Farmer’s Market located at T’afia, Monica Pope’s restaurant. The market features only the best of fresh produce and some prepared foods and cheeses. Jackie does her confections of perfection in a rainbow of colors, and her flavors are often exotic. She often has blueberry, blood orange and tiramisu as well as standbys like pistachio, coffee and vanilla bean.

The lightbulb came on to give a macaron as a favor for guests at Aimee’s wedding. But half the fun of French macarons is looking at them. So we came up with the idea to have an array of flavors and colors for guests, all in clear plastic boxes. When I spoke with Jackie she showed me the perfect size and it even has a white organza bow on top! Tres jolie. Now it’s just T minus 8 days till the wedding!

Marcus and I met last night to hash out our mission and really put down what it is we believe in as Lavish Gifts. After talking through everything we came up with a few maxims about gift baskets and gift giving in general. We also had a bit of help this week from Aimee over at Deuce Creative – thank you Aim. This season seems like the most appropriate time to stand up for gift giving that isn’t about more stuff that you don’t want!
