Here are a few fun ideas for Christmas takeaways. I found two styles of chinese food style containers that I really liked – then topped them with a wood cutout that coordinated. My sister Aimee, Kenzie (my daughter) and I made traditional cutout Christmas sugar cookies with a 40-year-old recipe. Next, we attached Amazon gift cards to these for my husband’s company Christmas party. Cookies AND free stuff!

We love these adorable cake or cupcake toppers for wedding cakes or shower celebrations. There is something decidedly un-wedding about them. Something about them reminds me of the Sunday funny papers or maybe its weeble wobbles – but these two seem to have their own little story to tell…

Made of wood and hand-painted, the size works really well for cupcakes or a full-fledged wedding cake. We noticed that Design Sponge (who we love) also likes these and has featured them. If you’d like to purchase these sweeties just email us at jennifer@lavishgifts.com. $40 for the pair.

The spider really tops it off in a spooky way!

Today we shipped out a fantastic custom Halloween gift basket for a college student. Her mom wanted something with all her favorite goodies. We included Starbucks Frappuccino (to keep her up for the all night study sessions), Smart Pop popcorn and lots of gourmet snacks and nuts to keep her energy up.

This particular collegiate is also a member of Chi Omega sorority so we found the coolest tote bag with her sorority mascot (the red owl) printed on the front. The owl works perfectly in the Halloween theme as well.

We put everything in a cute Halloween bowl and wrapped it with a creepy stuffed spider on top. Boo!

Bumblebee Cupcakes

Bumblebee Cupcakes

Baby Kenzie Bea’s first birthday was this past week. So I went all out and planned a bee themed party for her. My friend, an awesome baker and cupcake diva, Sarah at Sugar Shack , here in Houston, made the most fantastic chocolate and buttermilk cupcakes. She frosted them with stripes and I made these funny little paper wings. The wings were just brown shimmer paper cutout (freeform style) and glued to a glorified tooth pick called craft picks (picks and paper were bought at Michael’s).

I also used the most fantastic idea for a ribbon chandelier decoration that I found on The Hostess Blog – and added on a few faux bees for good measure. The decoration turned out a bit differently than I planned but at 1am you sometimes have to make sacrifices. The whole thing turned out so cute.

Blue French Macaron

Blue French Macaron

I have to follow-up on the previous post about my sister’s wedding favors. I finally have a photo to post of these fabulous French macarons in their clear boxes. The color was so saturated and they tasted so great! Thank you Maison Burdisso.

Marcus and I are so excited for my sister Aimee, of Deuce Creative fame. She will be married next week here in Houston and its going to be fabulous. Aimee and I were looking for a VERY last minute wedding takeaway for guests at the reception. Enter Jackie Burdisso of Maison Burdisso. She does gorgeous french-inspired foods and is famous around these parts for her French macarons. I met Jackie and first tasted her macarons at the Midtown Farmer’s Market located at T’afia, Monica Pope’s restaurant. The market features only the best of fresh produce and some prepared foods and cheeses. Jackie does her confections of perfection in a rainbow of colors, and her flavors are often exotic. She often has blueberry, blood orange and tiramisu as well as standbys like pistachio, coffee and vanilla bean.

The lightbulb came on to give a macaron as a favor for guests at Aimee’s wedding. But half the fun of French macarons is looking at them. So we came up with the idea to have an array of flavors and colors for guests, all in clear plastic boxes. When I spoke with Jackie she showed me the perfect size and it even has a white organza bow on top! Tres jolie. Now it’s just T minus 8 days till the wedding!

Wanting to create something handmade for my daughter’s two preschool teachers this Christmas, I decided a tabletop decoration might be fun. The word candlescape came to my mind, don’t know where I got that. The original idea was an all white design – but I found the most fantastic silver pieces to use at IKEA this year. They had this low lustre silver sand that I really like, and the crocheted star ornament was adhered to a silver candle with ribbon and a glue gun. I used heavy duty sticky dots to secure all the pieces to the large glass bowl – about 17″ diameter. Then I placed all the items including the wooden balls. Next, I poured the sand into the glass dish and spread it with a plastic spoon. I used cello wrap and mini garland for the presentation. Every single item in the candlescape is from IKEA including the mini garland to wrap it – I think the total for each came in around $40. So nice for the price.

Apple-themed teacher foodie gift basket includes scone mix and caramel apple butterHere are three ideas to celebrate the lady (or gent) that taught your little one a thing or two this year. These apple-themed foodie kits were a hit with my daughter’s teachers. My favorite version includes decadent caramel apple butter and scone mix in apple cinnamon from Sticky Fingers Bakeries. I am obsessed with these mixes right now – so delish. Another features Austin legend Kerbey Lane Cafe’s whole wheat apple pancake mix and apple cinnamon syrup. Each is packed with a decorative whisk on real apples into a mix and pour bowl and topped with a Lavish bow. Just in time for the apple of your kid’s eye. $43 plus shipping or delivered free inside the loop. Contact jennifer@lavishgifts.com  or call 832.620.6518 for ordering information.
